Bike Night @ the Vortex

(all photos in this post were shamlessly ripped from Steven Vore).

A long standing tradition in Atlanta is Thursday night Bike Night at The Vortex. The weather is getting just right for it and the bikes were out, the burgers were thick and the tales were tall.

In fact the burgers were really thick. How thick you may ask. Well, seems I found this menu entry labelled the "Double Bypass" a THICK beef patty with TWO fried eggs and cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches. See for yourself...

Really I tried. I couldn't get this big honking thing squashed down enough to eat it whole. So, I ate one grilled cheese, a fried egg, cheese, the lettuce and tomato. Then I attempted to eat the other grilled cheese, fried egg, cheese and beef patty. I got maybe halfway through that and surrendered. It beat me down, but I live to see another day without a heart surgery!

A GREAT time was had by all. There were bike of every kind and size imaginable. I'm almost certain I saw Steve McQueen's old Triumph (even had his racing number on it). Ducati's of every age, BMW's, KTM's, Hondas, Suzukis, Kawaski's, Harley's (stock, custom, stretched and raked, and one with Ape Hangers to the moon). It is worth the trip just to see the hardware that shows up. In my opinion, there was a better selection at the Vortex than at the International Motorcycle show (your mileage may vary).

Doh! I really should have gone last night. It looks like all the bikes are coming out for the spring again!

Hopefully I'll be there next week.

Lest we not forget all the toolboxes that show up, too.

Allen, Hi! I hope you don't mind if I leave a comment for you. I noticed your post on Irondad's site and thought I would come over and check it out. I live in Montgomery, AL and if you go to my blog, you'll see a story I wrote about your tornado also. I was attending the Hinman Dental Convention that weekend and we were in the Westin Tower that night the storm hit! Toot much excitement for me! Hope to see you around the comments cooler. Lady R.

Thomas, I'm figuring on hitting it once a month or so. Look for me whenever ya go.

aArOn - I loved the guy that rode up on a single speed bicycle and road around the parking lot alnight.

Ally - the burgers are good, but I'm not opting for the cholestrol max again. I think I'll try another menu entry!

LadyR - welcome aboard. Glad you weren't hurt in the tornado. Did that dude really sleep out in the snow at AMS? geez

Those are the kind of burgers that I have a love / hate relationship with. There's a similar burger at a local hangout. It's called the Dungeon Burger. I know I shouldn't have it. But I want it. Sometimes the burger wins, sometimes I do. Now you got me all weak, again!
