‘Kilroy’ was here!

It appeared everywhere during World War II. I even remember learning to draw it growing up. Here is the story behind it:

Dear Allen Madding:

I advise you to rent the Clint Eastwood movie, "Kelly's Heros." One, because it is a great movie with a great cast. And two, because in the final sceene, there is a drawing of "Kilroy," as I recall, with a slight variation. The drawing is poised over the legend, "Up Yours."

Thank you for this interesting bit of history.

I love Kelly's Heroes. Enough of the negative waves, man.

Interesting story about Kilroy. I drew him myself a number of times. Never really had a peek behind the curtain. Thanks!

P.S. Not sure what the photo was. Flikr says it's currently unavailable. Was it the scene from the movie?
